Assistant Chief of Police

Lt. Colonel Matthew Eiskant joined the Belleville Police Department in 2001.  During his time on the department he gained experience by serving in the Patrol Division, Detective Division, Special Response Team and the Special Operations Group.

At various times during his 18 years on the department, he has commanded the following Divisions: Patrol, K-9, Detectives, Special Operations, Code Enforcement, Traffic, School Resource Officers, Street Crimes and Civilian Support Personnel. He is currently a Deputy Commander with the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis.

Lt. Colonel Eiskant is a graduate of the FBI National Academy Session 257, Illinois State Police Crime Scene Academy, Southwestern Illinois Police Academy, Springfield Police Academy/Special Response Team, Western Illinois Police Executive Role in the 21st Century, and Leadership Belleville.

Lt. Colonel Eiskant holds a master’s degree in Criminal Justice from Lindenwood University-Belleville and bachelor’s degrees in Criminal Justice and Sociology from Lindenwood University-St. Charles, Mo.

Lt. Colonel Eiskant was appointed to Assistant Chief of Police in 2018. He assists Chief Clay in day to day operations with planning, supervision, and review of all department activities and personnel.
