Car Seat Installations
The Fire Department has Certified Child Safety Seat Installation Technicians on staff that are available to the public for proper car seat installation and instruction. This service is free of charge and arrangements can be made by contacting the Fire Administration office at 618-234-2236 to make an appointment.
Engine House Tours
Station tours can be scheduled through the Fire Administrative office. This is a wonderful opportunity for citizens to come and experience the fire apparatus and equipment used by our department, in addition to meeting our firefighters. Private tours are available for individuals or organized groups such as scout groups, church groups, day care centers, and other community organizations.
E.S.C.A.P.E. Program & Pluggie
The Belleville Fire Department promotes fire safety and fire prevention all year round. In October of every year, during Fire Prevention Month, firefighters visit each elementary school in the City of Belleville and teach fire safety to all of the students and faculty.

Thousands of school children have experienced the E.S.C.A.P.E. program since its inception in the 1980s. They enjoy the safety lessons brought to them by the firefighters and their robotic fire hydrant friend, Pluggie. The fire safety trailer is used throughout the year at several community events.
In-Service Training of Public
The Belleville Fire Department provides training for schools, hospitals, nursing homes, businesses, and organizations in fire safety, evacuation, and the use of fire extinguishers. This service is provided free of charge, on-site, by appointment, and offers hands-on experience by using a fire extinguisher simulator.
S.A.F.E. (Smoke Alarm for Every) Home Newborn Program
In January of 1995, the Belleville Fire Department began this program to remind parent(s) of newborn babies of essential fire prevention practices. When a baby is born at St. Elizabeth Hospital or Memorial Hospital in Belleville, parent(s) who live within the city limits are presented with a gift certificate for one free battery operated smoke detector and installation from the Belleville Fire Department. These detectors are to be installed in or near the newborn's bedroom.
